Cinder Gulch

The Magivore is our first bestiary entry! This apex predator is a sapient creature that emerged from the third world, and now feeds on magical power sources.   The greater portion of its body resembles a large mountain cat but nearly the size of a horse, ending in a brilliant red and black mane.   There are two limbs at the base of its neck holding up round, reflective disc like a mirror. It has the innate ability to sense magic and will try to consume arcane power sources, by touching them to the magivore’s mirror, which absorbs all the spiritual energy therein. Little is known about how it perceives the world through traditional senses, since it exhibits no sensory organs.   Magivores are ferocious and intelligent, capable of stalking prey for several days and using the environment to their advantage. This entry is our first example of a business in Cinder Gulch.  There are a few characters who work here, and each comes up FATE aspects and skills. There's also character options, for you to decide how these characters could interact with your players.  You could take the Stalwart option for a friendlier version of the character, or Sinister if you want them to be antagonists in your game. She is incredibly secretive abou...

These archetypes can be helpful when preparing your game, to find what kind of story your group finds most compelling.   Empire Story The players are building something, and getting rich.   This could be building up the town, a business, or their own   ranch.   The players and MC will have to discuss what kind of business or resource the players want to run, and then present obstacles specific to that enterprise.   If they become cattle ranchers, then there could be cattle rustlers, animals attacking their herds, supernatural plagues or weather, or competing businesses trying to sabotage their empire.  Outlaw Story In an Outlaw story, the players are criminals, who engage in dangerous illegal activity to gain wealth and fame.   This could be motivated purely by wealth, power over others, or simply defiance of societal norms. The players may t...
